WP4 Integrated Coastal Zone Management and Planning Pilot projects to create “marine plans” for a well structured spatial development of the sea areas.Downsize the outcome from the NORCOAST project and implement best practice guide lines to Skagerrak and its coastal zone. Describe and suggest concrete improvements in the “Common rights to access” in the coastal zone. Participate actively from the regional level in the ongoing international and national work to identify marine protected areas in the Skagerrak. Spreading knowledge about the high and unique values of the sea and the coastal zone to management, planning actors and the public. Progress papers from springtime 2006 Arbejdsnotat_swot_analyse.pdf Arbejdspapir_indikatorer.pdf pręsentation_270606_hsh.pdf presentation_270606_pfr.pdf Results so far: PrestudyFocusing on challenges concerning integrated coastal zone planning Main conclusions of Pre-study: • Lack of integration of Natural- and Social science • Little collaboration between scientists and planners • General lack of data for marine areas • Difficulties in working with data across boundaries • Planners and GIS-experts speak different languages SWOT A SWOT-analysis for the Skagerrak region has been made i 2 steps Part 1 - "Local SWOTs" in the 3 countries Part 2 - Common SWOT for the Slagerrak-region based on the local SWOTs and made by participants from all 3 countries. Main findings of the common SWOT: Strengths: • Close to densly populated areas • Strong infrastructure • Good living conditions • Potentials for sustainable energy • Attractive nature, beaches, clean water Opportunities / developing themes • Development of fishing, shell farming • Housing - permanent and holiday • Windmills, sea-wave power • Protection of natural resources and cultural heritage • Development of tourism Weaknesses / Threats • lack of knowledge concerning marine resources • lack of competence • lack of coordinated planning • local opposition to development • conflicting interests in the coastal zone • lack of suitable legislation • depletion of natural resources • pressure on land-use • change of landscape and habitats • lack of transportation-systems • risk of pollution • disparity within the region • climatic change |
