WP5 Co-ordinated environmental monitoring Elaborate a common strategy for monitoring adapted to the Skagerrak area and elucidate the lack of new data.Update the GIS-database from Forum Skagerrak I – to be a useful tool in planning and coordinating future monitoring activities in Skagerrak. Establish a measurement platform in The Baltic Current to obtain improved information by means of real-time data. Prepare a common strategy for: classification-systems, regional taxonomic lists and a common warning system (ex. harmful algal blooms). Results so far: To elaborate a common strategy for monitoring adapted to the Skagerrak area the report “Monitoring the pelagic system in the Skagerrak” is produced. The scope of this report is to describe the current monitoring situation of the pelagic system and to suggest a co-ordinated strat¬egy for a cost-effective future monitoring system.Intercalibration studies are a crucial part of a coordinated monitoring in the Skagerrak area. WP5 has funded part of an intercalibration study on eutrophication related pelagic parameters carried out by SMHI, NIVA, HI and NERI. The GIS-database from Forum Skagerrak I is being updated to become a useful tool in planning and coordinating future monitoring activities in Skagerrak. A measurement platform is being established in The Baltic Current to obtain improved information by means of real-time data. Bringing stakeholders together in order to exchange ideas of, how to improve the environmental monitoring in the Skagerrak in the future is crucial to improve the coordinated monitoring in the Skagerrak area.
